As an insight into both the world of The Far Shore and Kairi's position in it towards the end of the game, this pamphlet entry does just that! Despite being a memory-loss game, only roughly half of the characters did lose their memories - those were the Shinki. As a Shinki herself, Kairi eventually found herself in the company of Gods and Shinki, PCs and NPCs alike, who didn't like the subservient nature that Shinki were expected to take towards Gods in general and their singular God in particular. As a game mechanic, the God-Shinki relationship operated a lot like Meister-Weapon bonds from Soul Eater and the RP it inspired, Soul Campaign.
One of the consistent themes that Kairi encountered was that, as a Shinki, she wasn't supposed to go anywhere alone. She first worked on learning almost all of the Spells that were available for Shinki to cast in order to make herself more capable. When that wasn't enough to convince her God otherwise, she worked on physical combat training as well, namely with the PC Gods Izuku/Aidos and Hajime/Neith. She also discovered so-called Soulless Shinki: NPCs that could be wielded as weapons the same way PC Shinki could be. Most Gods wanted to expand the number of Shinki residing at their temple, so the Soulless Shinki were an easy +1 in that regard, but Kairi was the first to discover that they could be wielded by Shinki as well. This likewise increased her independence in terms of ability to fend for herself. She repeatedly fulfilled prayers in the name of her God, even if the God wasn't with her at the time. All of this resulted in her transforming into a Hafuri - the most powerful kind of Shinki - at the end of the game, all while coming into conflict with the Traditional Powers That Be that would've preferred an upstart little Shinki like her to stay out of the spotlight.
No good thing can last forever, though. One of the points of conflict that came up around Kairi's desire for independence was realizing that the Gods she spent all of her time around were actually from the same world as her, namely Sora and Roxas. They had a joint temple complex by choice; they and their Shinki frequently spent time in and around both temples, mingled with all of the Shinki there, shared meals, and eventually became close enough that Kairi saw them as family. This was amplified by the Norse pantheon of PC Gods psuedo-adopting their mythological faux-children God PCs, which is how Kairi became close with Prince Leo of Nohr (Odin to Sora's Baldr) and Aymeric (Forseti).
However, Sora and Roxas were so protective of Kairi - especially without her memories - that she felt like they were suffocating her, and this caused tension as she fought for her independence and spent time around Gods that she wasn't bound to, such as the ones mentioned in the Pamphlet. On the other hand, their fears seemed to come true when Kairi ventured out with fellow Shinki and Forseti temple resident, Goten, in the hopes of vanquishing some Ayakashi on behalf of their Gods, only to end up Blighted in the attack.
When Sora & Roxas eventually disappeared, it was devastating to Kairi, because she felt like that CR ended on such bad terms. In the wake of that loss, she became a Shinki next to Hajime/Neith, and then lost her as well. Her CR had always included Shinki that routinely lost gods and were shuffled from one temple to another, but she never thought she'd become one. She was welcomed into Leo's Odin temple after that and for the remainder of her time in The Far Shore.
She only ever remembered scattered scenes of her past (canon), including some character names, and eventually remembered Sora entirely - that is, every experience she ever had with him directly, but any other participants (canon mates) would've been fuzzy. She also learned she was a "Princess", but didn't know the rest of the context to realize it's a euphemistic title rather than a bloodline thing.
Personality:
Kairi's basic personality traits are informed by the fact that she grew up with two boys as her best friends, much like being the only girl in a family of brothers. While she doesn't hestitate to wear skirts and pink and jewelry and other traditionally feminine things, she also enjoys being outdoors, playing all kinds of games, and doesn't mind getting a little dirty. More than anything, with the sometimes wildly different ways that Sora and Riku handle situations or misunderstandings, her most effeminate trait is being deeply understanding and particularly good at mending fences between people with different outlooks. She enjoys dispatching challenges and being the referee to the boys' competitions, because it means they're having fun, and she'll do just about anything to make her friends happy - including staying out of their way. This comes up at the end of Kingdom Hearts 1 when Sora asks Kairi to stay out of the final fight, namely because she didn't have any combat skills.
Twice in canon, Kairi has to decide how to react to lost memories. The first is not being able to remember her home - Radiant Garden - but this is largely a normal kind of memory loss. She was very young when Radiant Garden was swallowed by darkness. As a young teen, being asked about her hometown, Kairi very succinctly says that she just doesn't remember it; there's no despair, just curiosity. She says she'd like to see it again one day, but doesn't need to stay there. Her real home is with her friends. Later, in KH2, Kairi's memories of Sora seemingly disappear while DiZ and Naminé are trying to repair the broken links from the events of re:CoM. She feels bad about losing those memories because she can feel the gap, but she also tries to take positive action in spite of that feeling of loss. Kairi can accept forgetting things and places; it's the people she cares more about, and namely that they're safe rather than by her side. She and Sora talk about that often, about being 'with' each other even though they're far apart. She'd be the kid who keeps up a pen-pal relationship (writing them out and sticking them in the mail) with their friend while the friend is studying abroad or working in another country.
She's as much a good listener as she is a good story teller, depending on the needs of her friends. She enjoys sentiments, like the paopu fruit stories and giving Sora her charm to return to her and her grandmother's "fairy tale" about how the worlds were fractured, but likewise she stood back while Sora cried upon finding Riku again in KH2. It was emotional for her too; she could just see better than Sora could who it was behind the mask and knew how hard Sora had been working to reunite their trio of friends. He needed to let that out; there was nothing more she could say to make that realization easier on him. Same for Riku in that moment; she had to let him explain why he did it instead of assuming anything.
Due to circumstances in the story, namely the Organization treating her like a chess piece to force Sora to do certain things, Kairi doesn't get a lot of combat expertise at all. This gives her the sense that she'll be in the way, so she spends a lot of time waiting for the fighting to end. In KH2, she starts to realize that maybe waiting isn't good enough, and it's at the end of Dream Drop Distance that she's getting empowered to do just that. The confidence isn't there yet, but the determination is; she can be moved to intervene when her friends' lives are on the line, but she's only just starting to be proactive about it. Before, the kinds of things she could comfortably champion in a Leadership capacity were all mundane things between her friends, like building the raft or when to go play at the island or how much time they can afford to play in between homework. She's finally been welcomed into the greater conflict not as a Princess of Heart in need of defending or with the defensive capabilities of seeing through Sora's Heartless or Riku stuck in Ansem's body, but a Guardian of Light worthy of wielding the keyblade Destiny's Embrace.
CRAU: In addition to the Leadership growth and Independent streaks detailed in the History section, the other big thing that Kairi dealt with was crushes and relationships. She was an unwitting 'heartbreaker' to a handful of young men and women. Significantly, Lance/Tlaloc (of Voltron) had a crush on her, she turned him down, and then circled around and around mutual crushing with Forrest/Lakshmi for the longest time. They eventually started dating, but Forrest refused on more than one occasion to Name Kairi - that is, to take her as his Shinki, even to protect her - because it would have given him literal control over her and (unbeknownst to Kairi) show him how she died. The significance of her relationship with Forrest is in his clothing choices, which opened Kairi up to experiencing traditionally effeminate small moments like a classic Sleepover with nail-painting, Shopping excursions, and Kairi learning how to help Forrest do his hair. Then - on February 14th of all days - he too disappeared.
Abilities & Inventory:
Princess of Heart
Keyblade - Destiny's Embrace Kairi only barely got around to using this in The Far Shore, but she can still summon it in and out of hammerspace like the other Keyblade wielders
KH/FF Magic - basic toolkit For example, where there exists Fire, Fira, and Firaga in Kingdom Hearts, Kairi only started learning how to cast "Fire" and its elemental equivalents, including Cure.
Nerfed Abilities from
thefarshore:
* Shinki Spells, Form Transformations, and ability to be bound to a God by a Name (Kanji) as detailed in her old Shinki Info
* Ability to wield her Soulless Shinki, Joy, in her weapon form
Inventory
* Joy as an NPC tagalong
* A set of modern clothing she was actively wearing, including a backpack-purse
* Several copies of her New Shinki Pamphlet
* Destiny's Embrace (see above)
Suitability & Plans: Kairi does actually suffer from temporary, magical memoryloss canonically during Kingdom Hearts 2. We see her completely forget her best friend, Sora, and still remain optimistic about eventually regaining those lost memories while keeping a positive outlook on life overall. Ultimately, I'd like the chance to show Kairi as being an awesome young woman without knowing she's the person always left behind. She was heading in that direction when the game ended, so I want to build on Kairi's growth when her (new game) canonmates weren't looking, while also letting her remember past in order to be proud of how far she's come.
Kairi took on a Leadership role in The Far Shore by choice and was a very active socializer with people of all stripes, including the wallflowers. She made her own fun while doing everything from morning jogs to birthday parties to Sleepovers to craft events to Group Training. Contrast that with mingling at important Festivals and seeking out the Ancient Powers (NPCs) to actively change the world around her, she can also enjoy world plot elements where they conflict with her friends' peace of mind, happiness, or independence. While she was never a God herself, she actively sought out Prayers to fulfill, and found joy in granting people's wishes that way. She never looked down on the "small" wishes of people either, i.e. ones that weren't attracting big bad Ayakashi monsters in need of slaying.

Abilities & Inventory:
Princess of Heart
- Kairi has the power to push back darkness that consumes a person and transforms them into some kind of alter-ego, such as when Sora turns into a Heartless. This requires reaching someone she's already emotionally connected to, such as being one of Sora's best friends since childhood. This includes sensing the person behind the alter-ego if she knew them already (Sora's Heartless form, Riku in Ansem's body)
- Kairi can sense darkness, but the flip side to this is she is also very sensitive to overwhelming darkness. While she built up quite a lot of tolerance for it in The Far Shore, it's still there.
Aqua cast a spell on Kairi when she was young so that she could find her way back through the Darkness, using her own light to be drawn to another. This is unlikely to come up, but if she were completely trapped in magical darkness / void powers, she would be able to get out of it with a friend nearby - using their own Heart as her lighthouse beacon of sorts. This is further supported by the fact that Kairi can canonically walk through Corridors of Darkness, which normally saps people's happiness and encourages them to think negatively.
